Travel eSIMs

New to eSIMs? An eSIM is a digital SIM you install on your phone before you travel - no physical card needed. Buy a data plan for your destination, activate it when you land, and you're connected instantly. No roaming charges, no airport SIM queues.

I use eSIMs when I travel

I’ve been using eSIMs for a couple of years now and I wouldn’t go back. The first time I landed abroad and my phone connected automatically without touching a thing, it felt like a small miracle. No hunting for a SIM kiosk, no paying over the odds for roaming, no faff.

If you’re still buying roaming packages from your network or swapping physical SIMs at the airport, there’s a better way.

Is my phone compatible?

Most modern smartphones support eSIM. If you’ve got a recent iPhone or Android flagship, you’re almost certainly covered. Check your settings before you travel and look for an option to add a mobile plan or eSIM.

My checklist before buying an eSIM - does it cover my destination? Does it have enough data for how I travel? Does it start from activation or purchase? Can I top up if I run out? Is the price reasonable for what I'm getting?

What should I look for?

Coverage - make sure the plan covers everywhere you’re going. Some eSIMs work across multiple countries, which is useful if you’re moving around.

Data allowance - think about how you actually use your phone on holiday. If you’re navigating, posting, and streaming, a small plan won’t last long.

Validity - most plans run from the day you activate, not the day you buy. Make sure it covers your full trip.

Top-up options - some providers let you add more data on the go, others don’t. Worth knowing before you need it.

My recommendation - I recommend Yesim. Good coverage, easy to use, and the app makes the whole process straightforward. I've used it myself and it does exactly what it says.
